About Me
Hello and thank you very much for your interest in my artwork. I am an artist that works primarily in colored pencil, graphite and pen & ink. Why have I gravitated to those mediums in particular? In college I experimented with other materials, such as painting in acrylics and oils. While I enjoyed trying other techniques, pencils and pens just seemed to feel more natural in my hand. Also, during the busier times in life, the simple act of picking up a pencil or pen and putting it to paper allows me to work on a piece easier when I only have a small block of time than if I were to use brushes and paints where there is more set up and clean-up.
I have always had a love for animals. I wish that I could explain why, but cannot, I have just always felt that way. They are my favorite subjects, especially wildlife. I can spend hours observing an animal’s actions. Whether it is a bird looking for twigs or string with which to build a nest, male bison competing for a female in Yellowstone National Park, or even my own dog playing with her stuffed toy, I enjoy seeing their own distinct behavior and personality shine. When I create a piece, my goal is to represent the unique beauty and presence that that particular animal brings into this world. I hope that the love and appreciation that I have for the subject is reflected in my completed artwork and that it brings enjoyment to those who see it.
Besides animals and art, I also have a passion for traveling. I love to experience new and different places and cultures. This has had the added benefit of making it possible for me to get reference photos for my drawings. Besides the animal kingdom, I also find interesting the play of light and shadows on inanimate objects such as historical buildings and statues, and will use them as subjects for my artwork as well.
